HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), has congratulated all Emirati women on the occasion of "Emirati Women's Day", which will be held this year under the theme, "Women on the Course of Zayed".
In a speech addressing the occasion, which falls on 28th August each year, HH Sheikha Fatima said that Emirati women have the right to be proud of their outstanding achievements, stressing that this year's celebration is a celebration of the martyr's mother, wife, family and children who lost their loved ones in the fields of honor while they were defending the right, serving their country and maintaining security and stability for their people. Mothers of martyrs should be proud that they have given their dearest sons for their country. The wives and children should be proud of their martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for their country. This course has brought peace to our country and therefore will not be abandoned.
The theme of this women's day "Women of the Course of Zayed", said H.H. Sheikha Fatima, is very significant to remind women and the society that the stunning progress made by women is attributed to the care and attention paid by late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the wise leadership of the state which had followed his example empowering women in all areas and enabling them to reach this position.
She noted that UAE women constitute 70% of students at UAE universities, schools and scientific colleges, 66% of government jobs, 30% of which are decision-making positions, in addition to the private sector, which has been invaded by women armed with their experience and knowledge. More than 23,000 Emirati business women in the UAE are investing more than AED 40 billion, she said.
The Mother of UAE said that women now are holding high positions in the state, including chairperson and member of the national council and eight ministerial portfolios. She praised women for their wise management of these positions saying that the Emirati woman has proven that she can interact with the multiple initiatives launched by the government and make all the efforts needed to serve all segments of the society and make the Year of Zayed a success as this unique position achieved by women is basically attributed to late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The Emirati strategy was not limited to the development of man; it includes women and all segments of the society. This approach will be adopted forever by the wise leadership supported by its people who stick to the values and principles set by the founder of UAE. These efforts were elaborated by the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who have followed the example of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan in women empowerment.
She also stressed that the empowerment of women in all fields of work is complete and comprehensive after the state announced that it has achieved gender balance and all members of the society enjoy equal rights and duties, pointing out that the right empowerment that is fair to women is to remove obstacles facing them and allow them to express their capabilities and talents as they were given all means to practice all of their rights in all fields.
Sheikha Fatima called on all Emirati women to continue on their progress and achievements, stressing her confidence in the Emirati woman's ability to contribute to the progress and advancement of her country.
