The UAE announced a month-long innovation festival in February, to reflect the top priority given by the country and its visionary leadership to innovation and innovators.The 2018 event seeks to build on the success of the UAE Innovation Week, which ran in 2015 and 2016. Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi,Member of the SupremeCouncil and Ruler of Fujairah, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, inaugurated the "Innovation Month" event in the emirate.Fujairah hosts the second week of the month (February 8-14) with more than 22 governmental institutions taking part in more than 43 activities, held during the week. In cooperation with the e-Government Department, the Finance Department participated in various activities that aimed at developing innovation in people of different ages and culture levels.The "Innovation Oasis" event, held at the Lulu Mall on Friday & Saturday February 9-10, 2018, focused on creative education and thinking as a basis for innovation. The event included many activities, including the Smart Brain activity that was meant to do fast calculation without calculators. Other activities were included in this event such as chemical laboratory, robotics and dismantling/ assembling computer devices. The attendees have interacted with the activities, to add more spirit and seriousness to the event. The most prominent activity was Fujairah Hackathon 3 that was held at the Fujairah International Marine Club on 11-12/02/2018. The event has been opened by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Director of Fujairah e-Government in presence of a large group of interested individuals and experts in the field of information systems, developers, private sector technicians and employees of government departments. The Hackathon was meant to promote the use of innovative technologies to develop practical applications that serve the community and support the government work in the emirate. The two-day event that was joined by government departments and private companies included a number of brainstorming sessions. One of this session, was held on board of a Marine Club boat that was cruising the shores of Fujairah, creating a joyful atmosphere in the session.By the end of the Hackathon, two initiatives have been launched; the first was the launch of a digital newsletter covering Fujairah news. The second initiative targeted launching an application dubbed "Fujairah Innovates", a platform monitoring new innovations of all governmental and non-governmental bodies in Fujairah and linking innovators to government bodies and private companies that may adopt the innovative ideas.His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Director of Fujairah e-Government, said that the innovation Hackathon was held under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.Under the instructions of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the country's annual innovation events are expanded to be a month-long with the aim of spreading the culture of innovation as a future capital. Innovations and research are considered fundamental pillars of a strong and visionary society and an annual innovation month would bring more innovations and help the country have the largest stock of innovative ideas and be an innovation hub. HE Ali Mustafa Mohammed, Director of Fujairah Finance Department, said that His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, issued his instructions to give top priority to supporting innovation and innovators as well as all institutions in order to encourage innovation.As a one of our leaders who are all very keen to encourage innovation, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, honors the innovators and inventors in Fujairah, sai the Director of Fujairah Finance Department.The UAE will reap the fruits of innovation support, he said, pointing out that innovation will be a cornerstone of the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE Centennial Plan 2071.
